Exploring Holy Hill in the Fall

Yesterday I was able to visit one of Wisconsin’s beautiful fall destinations, Holy Hill. Holy Hill Basilica and National Shrine is located on 435 acres on the highest elevation in southeastern Wisconsin. No matter what faith you follow, this place is open to the public for all to enjoy.

Holy Hill Bell Tower and the Wisconsin Fall Foliage

Southern Wisconsin is in peak fall color right now, so it was the perfect time to go visit. Many people visit Holy Hill in the fall to climb the tower, which gives a breathtaking view of the landscape. Upon Arrival, my son and I went straight to the tower and made the climb up to the top.

A View From The Top

The climb has some narrow staircases, but offers various spots to stop and take in the views. My three year old was able to easily conquer the stairs, and the railings offered ease of traversing up and down with a small child.

After climbing the towers, we took some time to check out the rest of the grounds. It was in-between mass times, so we peeked into the main gathering space of the Basilica (also beautiful), and checked out the gift shop. There is a lot more to see that we didn’t get to, so I hope to get back there sometime to check it out.

Considerations:

  • We were able to visit on a Tuesday morning and it was not busy at all. From what I’ve heard (and saw from a roped in corral area) it can get busy and there may be a wait line for entering the tower.
  • The stairs can be narrow at times. Something to consider if you are claustrophobic, or afraid of heights.
  • The tower is open to the elements, make sure to check online beforehand if there is rain or snow as the tower may not be open when the stairs are slippery.
  • I would 10/10 recommend a visit to everyone!
