The Best Compliments Come During Tough Times

Daily writing prompt
What was the best compliment you’ve received?

The best compliments I’ve ever received have been during times when I’ve really needed to hear them. One instance that stands out was when my son was just an infant. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that new mothers often feel insecure navigating motherhood. No amount of preparation can prepare you for the challenges that raising a tiny human can bring.

One clear memory of a needed compliment is from when my son was two weeks old. My husband had gotten pretty sick and quarantined himself away from myself and my son. My mom came over to help for a few days, and I remember her telling me that I am such a good mom and was doing a great job. My sleep deprived, exhausted self needed to hear that compliment. The first couple of weeks with my son was tough. He wasn’t gaining weight, I had to go to a lactation specialist, and we had a breathing-issue scare. Sometimes we just need some positive affirmation to get through tough times.

You never know what people are going through. If you think of paying someone a compliment, go ahead and do it. You never know the impact that it can make, and the light it can shine during a tough time.
