Unwinding After a Demanding Day

Daily writing prompt
How do you unwind after a demanding day?

Demanding days can come in all shapes and forms. Sometimes days can be physically demanding (hello there half marathon training) and some days can be mentally and emotionally draining. I often find myself gravitating towards a glass of wine or sweet treat while watching some TV. Some nights it’s just laying in bed and scrolling or playing games on my phone.

I am starting a new full-time job in a couple of weeks and I need to be better about my nighttime routine. Here are some of my goals for a healthy unwind at the end of the day:

  1. Read books before bed. Screen time before bed is one of my weaknesses. I hope to get some more physical paper books to read.
  2. Limit the nighttime sweets and snacks. If I need a snack, I’m going to try to opt for a healthy option and not eat it too late.
  3. Start my bedtime routine earlier. An earlier bedtime routine means the earlier I can fall asleep. I have friends who set a bedtime alarm daily, so I’m going to try that and hold myself accountable.

I hope to try out these things, and follow-up in a month or so. What healthy nighttime habits do you have? Share in the comments below!
