New Year Reset: My Biggest Challenges

Daily writing prompt
What are your biggest challenges?

For me, 2023 was a year of change, some good and some bad. Reflecting on the past year, here are two of the biggest challenges I hope to conquer in the coming year.

Accepting Help From Others

I have a wonderful support system. The biggest barrier I face regarding this? Myself.

I don’t like to ask for help and often feel guilty and uncomfortable when I receive help from others. I often feel this way over even the smallest things. Yesterday my husband helped with laundry and was folding clothes. This is a task that I normally do, and for some reason I was tempted to tell him not to worry about it and let me take care of it. But why? I was already doing dishes, trying to entertain my toddler, and tackling some organization projects in my kitchen. I decided to let it go and let him help.

I tend to over-burden myself, which then leads to stress and burnout. In the next year I hope to be more accepting of help from others, whether it be big or small.

Working On Consistency Not Perfection

Organization and planning are my best friends. When I take the time to plan ahead, meal prep, or fill out a calendar I set myself up for success. My problem? Consistency with doing this. In a perfect world, every Sunday would have the entire week planned out and ready to go. In reality, life happens. And when things don’t go as planned I tend to give up on it altogether.

My goal this year is to give myself a little grace. I don’t have to have the week scheduled out to the minute, but I hope to set some attainable goals to help set myself up for success. The most important thing: not beating myself up when things don’t go to plan. Life happens, and when it does take time to reset for the next week.
